peace of mind
this post is really just about cognitive offloading, but i liked the title peace of mind.
iv’e recently started appreciating the small effort but huge payoff actions like locking the door and setting an alarm. it’s amazing to me how wonderful the immediate effects are, like removing the constant alarm bell ringing in my head. i wonder what other small actions i can take which will do this. low hanging fruit is tasty faster. here are some examples:
things on my mental todo list, fx. this post. apparently it’s important enough to me that i have kept on thinking about it for the past week, so writing this feels nice, and i think will free some space in my brain for other things.
when trying to fall asleep i often get ideas, but i dislike disturbing my sleep to use my phone or even moving to write it down. even using voice is annoying to me. i can’t wait until there is some thought2text ai i can use.
on the topic of todo lists and ideas, i have a huge list containing everything which i want to read, watch, buy, do, etc. everytime i get a new idea i add it to the list, and rank it on importance. whenever i am figuring out what to do i consult the list, maybe pick a category, and get going. i am rarely bored.
i eat the same base diet every single day. i hate thinking about what to buy or what i am going to cook, so i have simple recipes which give me all the nutrients i need for the day.
this same pattern goes for working out
i don’t own a lot of clothing, as a result of throwing away all plastic containing pieces, and stuff i didn’t like. the result is quality over quantity, and enough varation to mix and match whatever i feel like for a week without a) thinking too hard about it, and b) not wearing the same thing all the time, although i’m getting to a point where all my clothes are breaking down, so i might just get the highest quality base item of everything, and wear the same thing every day.
